Additional Questions:

Why are there so many starving people in our world? Doesn’t God answer their prayers?

God receives uncountable prayers from both desperate people and from healthy Westerners concerned about strangers in need. Why would God answer the prayer of someone looking for a parking space instead of saving a starving person from dying?

Think about this... maybe He has answered their prayers. If He has, then those people are no longer starving. If God was not answering their prayers, maybe there would be an additiona 50,000,000 starving people in the world today. And you have no way to know that, except for answered prayer, they'd be starving. So how do you know God isn't answering the prayers of starving people?

We can't know. So let's deal with what we can know. There are two broader questions here. One is, why do bad things happen to people? For example, why is there disease, hunger, and suffering. The second question is, whose prayers does God answer? The second question is answered here.

original sinWhy Do Bad Things Happen?

Because all of creation is corrupted and damaged.

For the anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now.- Romans 8:19-22

What about disease, birth defects, and death? Why do we die?

Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned... - Romans 5:12

Hunger In Uganda

I've spent some time in Uganda working with a major ministry staffed by Ugandans. As the head of the ministry was driving through Kampala he pointed out the beggars on the streets. He commented that these people had come to the city looking for wealth and luxury, and they are starving. However, if they had stayed in the country, they'd be poor, but not starving. He said that, in Uganda you can just about throw seeds on the ground anywhere and grow three crops a year. No one in Uganda should be starving.

When the first human sinned... meaning when he first disobeyed God... that initiated corruption of both humanity, and all of creation. You could say that entropy became active. Everything started running down... started decaying. What was a perfect world, became a world that slowly filled with thorns, and disease, natural disasters and famine, war and human caused calamity.

Why are there so many starving people in the world?

One reason is because of the corruption of our world. Drought, floods, storms, insects, and sometimes just poor soil destroy crops and make it difficult for people to grow their own food.

But the main reason is because of the corruption of humanity. We have the capability to feed everyone. But greed, the desire for power, hatred, and self-centeredness... and in many cases the stupidity of "generous and kind hearted" people, results in many people not having adequate food. In other words, people are corrupt.

Why Doesn't God Fix This?

He will. God has made it very plain that He will destroy all corruption, and disease, and even death will be destroyed. That day is coming. And on that day humanity will be divided into two groups... the sheep and the goats. The sheep are the ones going to eternity with God in heaven. The goats are the ones that will spend eternity in hell... the lake of fire... the second death. In other words God is being patient. He longs to bring sin, and suffering, and death to an end. But, He is being patient... waiting for those you have not repented and trusted Jesus to turn to Him... maybe even waiting for you.

When God ends all evil... all war... all disasters... and all suffering... that is also the end of second chances. Your option to chose heaven will be gone... forever gone.

So I beg you. Recognize that you have done wrong. Your conscience tells you this is true. Repent... turn away from disobeying God and turn toward Jesus, He will save you.
